During the month of May, the UGR Cinema Club will screen 6 films as part of the series Memento (I): Forgotten Films of the 21st Century. The series aims to awaken the University community's and public´s interest in films which, in spite of their intrinsic quality and artistic value, have been relatively overlooked by contemporary audiences.

Leonard, the protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s film Memento (2000) — played by Guy Pearce — must note down the latest information and facts that he encounters, as he lacks any kind of short-term memory. He must, in other words, record and remember his most immediate past, present and future.

In today’s 21st century, and in line with the whims of the current distribution and production industries, we are constantly bombarded with advertising campaigns for new film releases. The upshot of this overwhelming frenzy is that many good and even great films have been lost or forgotten within the History of Film. They therefore fail to leave the mark that their undeniable worth merits. Our film series, entitled ‘Memento’, aims to rescue some outstanding films produced between the years 2000-2016 from oblivion, thereby giving them another opportunity to be properly assessed and appreciated.
