As part of European Maker Week, the UGR Media Lab, Faculty of Fine Arts, Free Software Office and the Albayzín Centre will come together on the 3rd of June 2016 for Maker Day Granada, in order to underscore the importance of this pan-European initiative in our city. Maker Day Granada will explore the potential scope and impact of the “Maker Movement” initiative, encompassing an exciting showcase of ideas, projects and presentations.
The “Maker Movement” is the name given to the growing community of people who are employing do-it-yourself (DIY) and do-it-with-others (DIWO) techniques and processes to develop unique technologies and products, while they strive to develop innovative solutions to the everyday challenges of our times.
European Maker Week, an initiative promoted by the European Commission and implemented by Maker Faire Rome, in collaboration with Startup Europe, aims to raise awareness about the importance of the ‘maker culture’ in fostering education based on creativity and innovation in all schools across Europe. It also aims to forge ties between local authorities, media outlets, and all stakeholders in local ‘maker’ ecosystems.
