An Introduction to Cinematic Language (Part II): Extraordinary Images

2001 A Space Odyssey“An Introduction to Cinematic Language (Part II): Extraordinary Images” (Iniciación al lenguaje del cine 2: imágenes maestras) is a pioneering cinematography workshop run by the University of Granada’s Cinema Club. Participants on the course learn how to critically analyze scenes and sequences from diverse films, genres and periods in the history of cinema.

The detailed exploration and examination of both outstandingly-crafted scenes, as well as poorly produced scenes, reveals the fundamental importance of employing cinematographic language effectively during the staging or mise-en-scène process. Moreover, taking into account aspects of staging and cinematic language is essential when it comes to the process of critically reviewing a film.

The course aims to provide participants with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to effectively interpret, understand and describe the richness of cinematic language as used in an extensive range of contexts, genres, and styles.
