Description History of Art is the scientific and humanistic discipline that aims to analyse works of art, understand the processes that have gone into their creation, relate them to their historical circumstances, and assess their contribution to the history of culture. Our Degree in Art History provides students with a solid grounding in the history of art, going beyond the traditional theoretical approach.

While undertaking your studies in Granada, you will not only be able to study art history, but experience it as well. With its rich cultural and artistic legacy spanning back centuries, Granada is the ideal destination for art enthusiasts. The Albaicin, the picturesque Moorish quarter in Granada dating back to the Middle Ages, is a UNESCO world heritage site along with the Alhambra, the spectacular Moorish palace which overlooks the city. The Realejo, the Medieval Jewish district, and the magnificent Cathedral dating from the Spanish Renaissance era, are only a few examples of the city’s artistic and cultural heritage.

Our Degree in Art History is designed to enable you to work in a variety of different fields, such as the protection and management of cultural, historical and heritage sites, both in private and public institutions, art conservation and restoration, research, the exhibition and commercialisation of artwork, teaching, urban planning and development, information retrieval and documentation, and the dissemination of cultural heritage.

As a student on this degree, you will have the opportunity to study a wide variety of subjects, such as: Ancient and Medieval History, The Main Philosophical, Movements in the Western World, The Fundamentals of, Musical Expression and its Evolution, Literary Movements from the Thirteenth Century to the Present, History of Muslim Art, History of Baroque Art, Management and Protection of Historical Heritage, History of Photography.

The training of art historians contributes to guaranteeing, maintaining, conserving and disseminating the cultural wealth that we have received and ought to pass on to future generations. Different new lines of research have been developing in the field of art history, transforming its traditional approach as a historical discipline and situating it at the forefront of humanistic studies.
