We are pleased to announce that the 16th Symposium of the International Dostoevsky Society will be held at the University of Granada from June 7-10, 2016. The Symposium will commemorate 150 years since the publication of “Crime and Punishment” and will be the most important event on Dostoevsky organized to date in Spain.
The Seminar “Kierkegaard and his influence on Spanish culture” will take place from 4th April to 6th June 2016 at the University of Granada’s Faculty of Political Science & Sociology.
The University of Granada will hold a screening of the silent film City Lights, the acclaimed romantic comedy written by, directed by, and starring Charlie Chaplan, on the 3rd June 2016. The screening will be accompanied by a live music performance by Javier Sanchís on violin and Juan Manuel Romero on piano.
As part of European Maker Week, the UGR Media Lab, Faculty of Fine Arts, Free Software Office and the Albayzín Centre will come together on the 3rd of June 2016 for Maker Day Granada, in order to underscore the importance of this pan-European initiative in our city.

During the month of May, the UGR Cinema Club will screen 6 films as part of the series Memento (I): Forgotten Films of the 21st Century. The series aims to awaken the University community's and public´s interest in films which, in spite of their intrinsic quality and artistic value, have been relatively overlooked by contemporary audiences.
You can now sign up to take part in the 2nd edition of our MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) The Alhambra: History, Art, and Heritage. The Alhambra and Generalife palaces in Granada are widely regarded as being among the most outstanding examples of Arabic architecture in the world. You will have the opportunity to learn about the history and aesthetics of the Alhambra, the processes that went into its construction, and its conservation. The course is free of charge.
The VII Andalusian Audiovisual Exhibition will take between 2 February and 10 May 2016 and includes 15 sessions which will be screened every Tuesday at 18:00 in the Euro-Arab Foundation. The series, unique in Andalusia, encompasses a diverse selection of feature films, documentaries, animations, video art, and short films, representing some of best audiovisual productions in the Andalusian film industry.
The University of Granada, through its Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization, is pleased to announce that its 7th International Staff Training Week, an Erasmus+ initiative, will take place from 16-20 May 2016. The five-day programme includes plenary sessions, round tables, workshops, and social events.
Our Conference Series ‘Researchers in Training - Promoting Interdisciplinary Research (JIFFI)’, which will be held from 18-20 May 2016, has been developed with the aim of encouraging doctoral candidates and researchers from our three doctoral schools (Health Sciences; Humanities, Social Sciences and Law; and Science, Technology and Engineering) to engage in cutting-edge interdisciplinary research.
The UGR Entrepreneurship Forum will take place on the 17th and 18th of May 2016 at the University of Granada. The programme will explore different ways in which the city of Granada could become a powerhouse for entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as providing upcoming entrepreneurs with practical advice on how to reach their goals.
The aim of the conference series is to contribute to debate and dialogue on one of the most fruitful concepts developed in the field of peace research in recent years – ‘Imperfect Peace’, coined by the historian, academic, and researcher Francisco A. Muñoz Muñoz.

The five-day conference series, “Routes & Rights: The current international situation of migrants and refugees” will take place between 7th April – 5th May 2016 at the University of Granada. It aims to act as a space for debate, critical analysis, and reflection on the current situation of migrants and refugees attempting to make it to Europe by land and sea.
Luchino Visconti’s broad artistic repertoire encompasses his works as a film-maker (14 full-length films and four episodes) but also, importantly, as a theatre and opera director (approximately 60 staging productions). His work is extensive, analysing the main political events of his country and the social upheavals resulting from these events, while at the same time deeply reflecting his own personality.The UGR will hold a film series dedicated to the works of Luchino Visconti during the month of April. Nine of the director’s works will be screened in the UGR’s Cinema Club as part of the series “Masters of classic cinema (IX)”, to mark the 110th anniversary since Visconti’s birth.

The III Discovering Science Fair, a large-scale national event which aims to bring science closer to society, will be held from 8-17 April in Granada's Science Museum and various locations around the city.
The International Festival of Language, Culture and Leisure 2016 (FLECOS or Festival Internacional de la Lengua, Cultura y Ocio) will take place in Granada from 1st-3rd April 2016. The goal of FLECOS is to promote the teaching and learning of the Spanish language throughout the world, with a strong emphasis on the strategic role of the language as a medium for creativity and for cultural and knowledge exchanges.
“An Introduction to Cinematic Language (Part II): Extraordinary Images” (Iniciación al lenguaje del cine 2: imágenes maestras) is a pioneering workshop run by the University of Granada’s Cinema Club. Participants on the course learn how to critically analyze scenes and sequences from diverse films, genres and periods in the history of cinema.

Jesús Utiel’s exhibition, entitled “Cervantes y Coetáneos” is now on display at the University of Granada’s Faculty of Humanities. The exhibition is being held to commemorate 400 years since the death of Cervantes and is open to the public until the 29th February, when it will then be put on display in Madrid’s City Council. The title of the exhibition refers to the immensely fruitful Spanish Golden Age, during which the arts and literature flourished for over a century.
2016 marks the 40 year commemoration since the creation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic’s constitution. The original version of El Amor Brujo was premiered on 15th April 1915. This distinctively Andalusian work was created in response to renewed calls for the development of a new musical theatre genre. 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the premiere which, owing to its pioneering and bold nature, would soon revolutionize the Spanish music and theatre scene and set it on the path towards modernity.
The 15th Annual Congress of the Spanish Biophysical Society will be held from the 10-12 June at the University of Granada’s Faculty of Sciences.
