Conference Interpreting

Conference Interpreting

Masters Programme Conference Interpreting
Description Our Masters in Conference Interpreting is designed to equip students with all the necessary knowledge and skills required to become professional interpreters, and enable them to seek employment in both national and international labour markets. The programme is flexible, allowing candidates to choose the following language combinations:

* English – Spanish
* French – Spanish
* German - Spanish
* Arabic – Spanish

Students choose two foreign languages (B and C languages), learning to interpret from these languages into their own native language (language A) and also from their own native language into their primary foreign language (language B).

As a student on the course you learn how to effectively develop both monologic and dialogic interpreting skills, simultaneous interpreting skills, analyse and understand diverse communicative situations, and predict and resolve potential problems.

The Faculty of Translation and Interpreting first began training professional interpreters in 1991, making it a pioneer in the discipline in Spain, and allowing our teaching staff and researchers to gain invaluable experience in the field over the last number of decades.

Conference interpreters are highly-sought after in today’s labour market, finding employment in large international organisations such as the United Nations and its agencies (WHO, ILO, UNESCO, WTO). Our graduates often go on to find employment in European institutions (the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Court of Justice of the European Union). Alternatively, they go on to seek employment as freelancers both in Spain and abroad, working in both the public and private sectors, at international conferences, product presentations, courses, and visits. With the expansion of international relations throughout the globe, the demand for skilled interpreters is greater than ever before.
