The UGR recently launched ‘Science Up Close’, a new dissemination programme aimed at promoting science in society

By means of short talks of approximately 15 minutes in duration, uploaded to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, researchers from the UGR explain their daily work and topical scientific issues to the general public. The overall goal of the programme is to bring research conducted at our academic institution closer to society.

“The aim is to stimulate the viewer’s interest in these topics using straightforward and engaging language, while enabling the researchers to employ those narrative threads which best fit the topics up for discussion”, explains Ana Isabel García López, Director of the Scientific Culture Unit at the University of Granada.

The first Science Up Close videos have dealt with diverse issues, such as women in prehistory, myths and realities related to exercising during pregnancy, new methods for reducing stress in children before they undergo an operation, and art therapy.

Jose Ángel Ibánez Zapata, Director of the Communication Management Office, encourages researchers at the UGR to take part in this pioneering new programme. He explains: “The objective, as the name indicates, is to bring science closer to the general public, making the most of opportunities generated by new technologies and the Internet”.
