| Description | Statistics is the language of science in the 21st century. It is the discipline concerned with the collection, organisation, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data, as well as the establishment and verification of statistical models in all knowledge areas. Statistics uses specific mathematical and computing tools to identify and solve problems and to design, collect and transform the data with which the models will be constructed. The University of Granada was the first to implement the study of statistics in Spain. As such, we have the experience needed to provide you with a solid grounding in the field. Our degree is designed to provide you with exceptional training in statistics and its related fields –data mining, risk analysis, stochastic modelling, statistical demographics, computational statistics, quality control, sampling, biostatistics, health statistics and other specialised areas. The first academic year of our degree is designed to allow you to gain a basic grounding in mathematics, information communication and technology, and economics. After your first year, you will then study subjects in areas such as data analysis, statistical inference, lineal modelling, experiment design, sampling and survey design, operational research, numerical analysis, computational statistics and probability. You can then choose from a list of elective subjects that offer training in fields such as advanced numerical analysis, analysis of demographic data, extreme value analysis, contingency table analysis, system reliability, biostatistics, multivariate statistics, data mining, risk analysis, and categorical data modelling. Our graduates are qualified to work in an extensive number of areas, such as public administration, health sciences, economics and finance, the industrial and service sectors, education, and research. While working in these areas, they carry out different activities like demographic projections, studies of social trends and the labour market, optimal allocation of resources, risk assessment, financial analysis, market research, quality control, experimental design, inventory management and production planning. |
