| Description | The study of humanities at the University of Granada dates back to the era of Charles V, in 1531. These origins have set the foundations for our Degree in Philosophy, which combines experience and tradition with innovation and new technologies to provide high-quality education. Philosophy is the rational reflection on our existence in this world and our place within it. It involves a methodical and critical questioning of reality and of human beings, existence and perception, of linguistic and artistic expression, of the fundamentals of ethics, and of the role of politics. From the origins of Western civilisation, philosophy has addressed the universal problems of human existence through free thought, rational argument and public debate. As such, philosophical studies have always been present in our society and have a decisive role in Western traditions and thought. The Philosophy Departments at the University of Granada have had a long and prestigious record. Our courses in philosophy have been ranked among the top three in Spain. The degree offers students a rigorous and diversified education in the different areas of philosophical knowledge. As a student on our Degree in Philosophy, you will have the opportunity to delve into a wide range of knowledge areas, such as the history of philosophy, ethics, logic and reasoning, sociology, anthropology, metaphysics, aesthetics, morality and philosophy in all of its aspects. Our graduates gain a solid grounding in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills that allow them to understand the core concepts, theories and methods relevant in the field of philosophy, and apply these resources to real-life situations. The practice of philosophy should contribute to the experience, knowledge and actions of human beings, teach us how to think independently, improve our understanding of other cultures, and enable us to lay the foundations for a free and socially responsible society. Our degree enables graduates to work in a wide variety of fields; most notably, secondary and university-level education, research, civic and cultural management, publishing and consultancy in a wide range of fields such as bioethics, corporate responsibility, intercultural coexistence, social mediation, audio-visual communication and personal counselling. |
