Description Our Degree in English Studies give you the opportunity to study the linguistic, literary and cultural phenomena related to the English language. On this course, you will acquire oral and written communication skills in English and become acquainted with cultural discourse, as well as studying the communities in which English is used as a national, international or second language.

The UGR receives more incoming students than any other European university and students from 114 different countries are currently enrolled on our courses. This dynamic and culturally rich environment provides you with plenty of opportunities to put your language skills into practice, and meet and learn from people from diverse countries, cultures and backgrounds.

The degree includes subjects from the following knowledge areas: English language and grammar, English and North American literature, advanced Spanish usage, linguistics, discourse analysis, cultural studies and classical languages. Students undertaking this degree also have the chance to study a second foreign language from a long list of options: Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Czech, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Modern Standard Arabic, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbo-Croatian.

Historically, the UGR’s has excelled in the field of English studies and is currently at the forefront of the field internationally. Increasing globalisation has created a great demand for professionals who are competent speakers of the English language, especially in Spain, South America and Asia. Upon completion of our degree, our students’ career prospects are therefore very favourable.

Our graduates are qualified to work in a wide range of fields, including teaching, international relations, business management, and tourism.
