Description As a student on our Degree in Classical Philology you acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to comprehend, interpret and critically analyse all aspects of the Greco-Latin world and its crucial role in the development of modern day Europe.

Europe, and in particular Spain, has inherited an incredibly rich cultural, historical, literary, artistic and architectural legacy from its Greco-Roman origins. Our degree allows students to understand, explain, preserve and promote this spectacular heritage.

The degree focuses primarily on three general areas: Greek and Latin language, literature and culture. Spain, and in particular the UGR, has enjoyed a long-standing tradition of expertise in linguistic research in Greek and Latin and the scientific and didactic skills required in these fields.

Our approach is essentially multidisciplinary, allowing you to obtain a solid basis in linguistics, history and culture. At the same time, our degree allows you to explore and critically interpret the Greco-Roman legacy which has been bequeathed to us in language, literature, culture, economics, sociology, politics and philosophy. The degree’s principal strength lies in its versatility and the broad range of skills that it teaches. Given the nature of today’s so-called knowledge society, such versatility is prized more than ever by employers.

Our degree allows you to acquire skills highly valued by employers, such as: A rigorous working methodology, Research and documentation skills, Fluency in languages, Cultural awareness, ICT skills.

For this reason, our students often go on to work in translation, editing, archives, museums, libraries, and cultural and research institutes, to mention but a few areas.
