The UGR Awards for Outstanding Research and Scientific Dissemination (Premios de la Universidad de Granada a la divulgación científica y a trabajos de investigación de excelencia) were celebrated on the 8th November 2016. These annual awards are granted in recognition of outstanding contributions made by UGR researchers to six key areas.




UGR researcher Miguel Ángel Ruiz Fresneda receives award at the 10th International Biometals Symposium in Germany

Miguel Ángel Ruiz Fresneda, a predoctoral researcher at the UGR’s Microbiology Department, has won the Carl Zeiss Award for his presentation at the 10th International BioMetals Symposium in Germany, organized by the Institute of Resource Ecology in collaboration with the International Biometals Society (IBS). The conference series started in 1997 in Calgary (Canada) and since 2000 has become a biannual meeting. Ruiz Fresneda’s presentation describes the bacterial reduction of selenium (IV) to selenium (0) both in aerobic and anaerobic conditions.





UGR scientist José Gómez Zotano has received the Marbella Research and Historical Heritage Award

José Gómez Zotano, from the UGR’s Regional Geographic Analysis and Physical Geography Department, has received the Marbella Research and Historical Heritage Award (Premio a la Investigación y Patrimonio Histórico de Marbella). During the awards ceremony, Zotano lent his support to Marbella City Council’s proposals to declare the Bermeja Mountain Range a National Park, to restore the region’s local rivers as driving forces of eco-friendly initiatives, and to recover beaches and dunes that have disappeared. He also emphasized the fundamental importance of promoting the use of native plant species in public spaces and gardens, and the urgent need to oppose the introduction of invasive exotic species.







Two UGR researchers receive awards from the Regional Youth Council (Consejo de la Juventud de Andalucía)

Awards

Antonio Gómez, from the GENYO research centre, has received an award in the professional development category, while Clara Luna, a researcher from the UGR's Drawing Department, has received a special mention in the area of social inclusion and accessibility. Luna has created a pioneering new format for developing accesible stories for people with reading/writing and intellectual disabilities.





UGR R&D project “VIVable”, receives national award at Spanish Exhibition of Architecture and Housing

VIVable

The UGR research & development project “From accessible housing to sustainable housing: the essence of reasonable adjustment, VIVable”, has won a prestigious national award at the Spanish Exhibition of Architecture and Housing.





The Social Council Awards 2015

The annual Social Council Awards, launched in 2002, are presented each year in recognition of outstanding initiatives and activities at the UGR. The University of Granada has won 3 of the 6 ‘Andalusia Research Awards 2015’ (Premios Andalucía de Investigación)

The UGR researchers Rafael López Guzmán; Professor of History of Art, Francisco Herrera Trigueros; Professor of Computer Technology and Artificial Intelligence, and Francisco B. Ortega Porcel; Professor of Physical and Sports Education, have received the awards from the Regional Government of Andalusia in light their exceptional contributions to their fields.




UGR researcher Jonaton Ruiz receives prestigious award from the AstraZeneca Foundation

Jonatan Ruiz, a researcher from the UGR’s Department of Physical and Sports Education, has received the AstraZeneca Foundation award in the area of Type II Diabetes and Obesity. Ruiz won the award in light of his outstanding research into the effects of an exercise programme on the behaviour and quantity of brown adipose tissue (BAT or brown fat) in young overweight and obese adults.




Salvador García and Francisco Herrera receive coveted 'IFSA-EUSFLAT Best Application Paper Award' for work in set theory and fuzzy logic systems

The UGR researchers, from the Computer Technology and Artificial Intelligence Department, have received the award for their cutting-edge research in set theory and fuzzy logic systems. The award was allocated by the International Fuzzy Systems Association and the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology for their paper entitled ‘An Interval Valued K-Nearest Neighbors Classifier’.

The UGR Awards for Outstanding Research Awards (Premios de la UGR a trabajos de investigación de excelencia) were celebrated on the 20 May 2015. The awards are granted in recognition of outstanding contributions made by researchers at the UGR and encompass 5 different area: Humanities, Health Sciences, Experimental Sciences, Social Sciences, and Engineering. The awards are also an opportunity to highlight the UGR´s profile as a research-driven institution which makes significant contributions in all 5 knowledge areas.




UGR research project ranked among the top ten most important in 2014 in terms of its societal impact

A UGR research project has been classified by The Information and Scientific News Service (SINC) as among the top ten most important science-related news reports in 2014, in terms of its overall impact on society.

The research, carried out by the Research Group AGR-145: Digestive Physiology and Nutrition, warns of the negative effects of protein-based diets, such as the famous Dukan Diet, on the kidney. The Information and Scientific News Service (SINC) is a public, state-run agency which specializes in science, technology and innovation related information in Spanish.

Five UGR social research projects to be awarded funding by the Centre for Andalusian Studies

Five UGR research projects selected in the 9th edition of the Centre for Andalusian Studies’ call for tenders in social research projects.

Of the twelve research projects in total which will be awarded funding, five will be carried out by the University of Granada. The twelve research projects encompass areas related to contemporary Andalusian history, as well as key social, economic, and cultural challenges in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia

UGR teachers awarded three of six regional research awards

Spanish scientist obtains international award for 3D video that recreates a journey through the interior of a cicada

3rd of September of 2014

Javier Alba-Tercedor, professor of Zoology at the University of Granada, has obtained an award at the “Bruker micro-CT user meeting”, which took place in Belgium, for a video produced with an innovative technique called microtomography.
